This laptop has an attractive price range and good quality hardware. The HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop was built for gamers and not innovative professionals. Still, it serves creative professionals very well in almost every area.
The new HP Pavilion Gaming 15 laptop has a clean and attractive design. The (sci-fi) inspired design of HP Pavilion Gaming 15 makes this device look more appealing than other typical gaming laptops in this price range.
This laptop is made out of full hard plastic with a matte finish that doesn’t feel cheap. This device weighs around 1.98 kgs or 4.4 pounds which is relatively light for a gaming laptop.
One green-colored HP logo behind the display and a Pavilion branding on the hinges looks impressive.
There is an air intake grille on the backside, but you will not get a support panel used for the upgradation of the RAM. The device upgradation is done by opening the bottom panel.
The color green on this HP device helps it stand out. You can see the grill and the cuts which are given on the display of this laptop. So the design is quirky, and the more you use this laptop, the more this design will grow on you, and you will love it.
It looks like a television or something, and you love the design of this laptop. The way the display has been mounted, you love using it while video editing or playing some games. This laptop is excellent, and also the build quality is top-notch.
This laptop is attractive and thin but a little on the heavy side as expected because it is a gaming laptop. The separated dual fans in HP Pavilion Gaming 15 offer a new advanced thermal management to keep the device cool.
It does a decent job of preventing overheating for the most part, even without getting loud.
One of the highlighting features of this laptop is its 144-hertz fast refresh rate which will give you a smooth blur-free gaming experience. The ultra-thin three-sided micro-edge bezel enhances the entire look of the display.
Furthermore, you will be pretty satisfied with the color accuracy, which came out to be 91 percent for sRGB and 61 percent for adobe RGB with a brightness of 250 nits.
Overall, a budget gaming laptop display is up to the mark. The provided bezels on either side of this device are very slim. The top and bottom borders are more than bigger.
This laptop runs on three gigahertz AMD Ryzen 5 4600H 4th generation 6-Core processor. The processor is based on the clock speed of 3 gigahertz, and its max boost frequency is four gigahertz.
The AMD Ryzen 5 4600H should be able to handle most of your daily workloads. The workload includes a comfortable gaming experience, programming, 3D rendering, video editing and photo editing, or other CPU-intensive tasks.
This laptop comes with an Nvidia Geforce GTX 1650 Ti 4 GB graphics card more powerful than Geforce GTX 1650, giving you a fast and smooth gaming experience without any issue.
The gaming performance depends on the used graphics memory, clock rate, processor, system settings, drivers, and operating systems. Hence, we have tested the FPS of some heavy games like GTA 5, Valorant, Tomb Raider, Battlefield 5, and many more.
Overall, these games’ FPS came out to be 80 to 120 plus in mid to high settings and 60 to 90 FPS in ultra-high settings. It can give a decent performance while using heavy softwares like Adobe Premiere Pro, AutoCAD blender, Photoshop, etc.
This laptop includes 8 GB DDR4 RAM with 512 GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD of storage. With the features of upgradability options like slots for 1 TB HDD plus 1 TB SSD and RAM is expandable up to 16 GB that rarely be seen in a budget gaming laptop.
These features smoothen your overall experience by reducing your device’s strain and allowing gamers to push their laptop limits to another level within a budget. The booting takes around 8-9 seconds.
It’s pretty quick when it comes to booting time.
The keyboard on this laptop is a full-size keyboard, and the keys have decent travel as well. The keys are perfect while typing and using it daily. So in terms of typing, this keyboard is a little better than the ones used in other laptops.
The trackpad on this laptop is excellent. It’s pretty responsive to its touches as well. It quickly responds to the command you give. But the only problem is the clunky noise coming from this trackpad.
It offers a numeric keypad with a tiny home, end, page up, and page down keys. Above it, the cursor arrows are arranged in HP’s eternally awkward row. The attractive buttonless touchpad drifts and taps fluently but clicks clumsily.
The green backlit keyboard, also available in the purple variant, adds some excitement to your gaming and does not let you feel dim in dark conditions. Key pressing is snappy and pleasant for normal working, but gaming keys might be too soft.
There are no dedicated keys for secondary functions. The touchpad is not comprehensive as expected; however, it has a satisfying click in responsive too.
The only ports on the left edge are the USB 2.0 port and the power connector. On the right we have USB 3.1 type A and type C ports, an HDMI video output and Ethernet port, an audio jack, and an SD card slot.
As an AMD machine, this HP has no thunderbolt port. There are a decent amount of ports available on this device that will fulfill all your connectivity needs.
A large honeycomb-style speaker grill sits at the top of the deck, tuned by Bang and Olufsen. These speakers produce a clear but not very loud sound.
Bang and Olufsen, the audio control software, offers music, movie, voice presets, and an equalizer.
This laptop has a 52.5 watt 3 cell battery with a 150 watt AC adapter. You can get over 3 to 3.5 hours of battery backup out of this laptop in regular use. By gaming laptop standards, that’s a pretty good and powerful deal.
But during gaming battery range foster, if you play on higher settings, it will last up to 1 hour. If you’re going to play games on battery power, expect the battery to drain much faster, even with the battery saver on.
You can expect the battery to consume much quicker if you’re going to play games on battery power, even with the battery feature kept saved ON.
Windows Hello users will be disappointed to find neither a fingerprint reader nor a face-recognition webcam.
The 720P webcam captures soft-focus shots with lots of noise.
