Top 8 Best Dell Laptops to buy in October 2021

8. Dell Inspiron 15 5000

The 8th Best Dell Laptop on our list is Dell Inspiron 15 5000. The Dell Inspiron 15 5000 looks seriously premium laptop, and it’s hard to believe that this is a mid-range laptop. It is a great laptop for anyone who wants a lightweight solution with great portability and horsepower when required.

The Inspiron 15 5000 is not a gaming laptop. If you used this for even casual gaming, we would not advise this laptop. It’s not designed for graphic-intensive activities, even though it had the latest integrated chipset inside it. It’s just not going to run a smooth gaming experience if you run anything beyond ultra-low.

Dell Inspiron 15 5000
Dell Inspiron 15 5000

Design

The Inspiron 15 5000 itself is a fairly premium-looking laptop given its price range. It weighs 3.8 pounds approximately; that’s weight is entirely justified given the fact there’s a bunch of premium materials all across this laptop. On the top, it comes with a metallic surface cool to the touch, super smooth, and minimal.

You have the Dell branding in the dead center. There are no over complicated textures and no excessive fanciness. On the bottom of the laptop, you can see there are a bunch of passive vents. Now, this portion of the laptop is made up of normal hard material, and that’s perfectly fine, given that it’s hidden from sight most of the time.

Also, you’ll notice that you have a speaker grille on either side actually, which means this is a stereo set up speaker system.

Display

Inspiron 15 5000 comes with a 15.6-inch FHD display having 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution. Dell does a pretty good job of trying to modernize to display fitting, so you have super thin bezels on either side. Also, you have a relatively slim chin with the Dell branding in the center, and on the top of the forehead vessels super slim; you do have a web camera in the middle with a dual array microphone.

It has a decent display quality with a reasonable 1080P resolution of 141 pixels per inch. Also, you have a modest 60-hertz refresh rate. In terms of color accuracy, you have just above 58 percent sRGB coverage, which is quite moderate. If you’re doing any graphics-intensive tasks like color grading or doing photo editing, this might not be the right display for you.

Given the high color and accuracy, you’ll experience. Furthermore, at its peak level, the brightest level only hits 233 nits. At the same time, this should be ample for most indoor lighting settings.

Performance

Inspiron 15 5000 is equipped with the 11th generation Core i5 1135G7 processor, 8 gigabytes of DDR4 RAM, and 512 gigabytes of SSD breezes through most tasks. It also comes with Intel Iris Xe graphics. So anything from word processing to surfing the web, watching a Netflix movie, or crunching an excel file will work seamlessly.

Even when you run more CPU-intensive tasks like Photoshop, Lightroom, or premium rush, you’ll find the laptop does a pretty good job of handling all that. If you are planning on doing any gaming on this laptop, it should be casual at most because most games will only run on the ultra-low settings with a steady 30 frame rate any higher, and you start running into unplayable frame rates.

In terms of processor temperatures, you can hit the maximum load of 84 degrees Celcius. The processor will use the thermal throttle and scaled back in performance until it reaches cooler temperatures.

Keyboard

The keyboard on the Inspiron 5000 is amazing. It has nice tactile feedback and 1.5-millimeter travel. It is a fully backlit keyboard with a two-tier setting system. Also, you have the inclusion of a full ten-key number pad. You also have a fingerprint scanner that doubles as the power button.

\But there are no dedicated media keys; however, they are all backed into the traditional function keys you find on the laptop. You have a generous amount of palm rest space, and you also have a pretty big trackpad that looks premium.

Connectivity

There are limited but good ports are available on Inspiron 15 5000. On one side, you have the DC charging port, an HDMI port, a USB 3.0 port, and a USB Type-C port. On the other side, you have the headphone Jack, another USB 30 port, and a micro SD card reader.

Battery

With great performance comes great battery life is what we would all wish for our laptops. The Inspiron 5000 has pretty reasonable metrics in terms of battery life.

So using it for day-to-day activities like web surfing or watching a YouTube video at mid brightness levels, you can easily squeeze up to 9 hours of battery life which isn’t bad given the specs you have on this laptop.

However, keep it at a high workload with maximum brightness and drastically drops around 3.5 hours of battery life.

Speakers

You get a stereo speaker system onboard, which is great. The speaker sounds pretty good but has a listen for yourself.

Webcam

The webcam quality is pretty lackluster, running at 720P at 30 frames per second, but sadly this is the norm in the industry currently.

Conclusion

Dell has a very well-built Inspiron 15 5000 laptop. It looks super-premium, and it has a lot of elements without a premium price tag. It is a great laptop for anyone who has a normal activity; use a chart, for example, if you’re doing web browsing, watching Netflix, or typing a word document.

The laptop is more powerful, and you can even run a more intensive application like video editing. This laptop is great for both students and consumers in general who have that kind of lifestyle.

 7. Dell G5 15 SE

The 7th Best Dell Laptop on our list is Dell G5 15 SE. Dell has managed to deliver an affordable gaming laptop with AMD all over it, that’s right. You’re getting a really fast Ryzen CPU and a Navi-based graphics card. There is a lot to like about the G5 15 SE; it’s pretty affordable comes with great specs.

When you look at the competition, the Asus Tough A15 for the same price as our G5 15 SE, you get more storage and RTX 2060 but remember that the Tough A15 didn’t have a great screen.

Dell G5 15 SE
Dell G5 15 SE

Design

Dell’s use of glossy plastic materials on the outside says it all, and when you flip the notebook, the bottom looks very nice too. Interestingly to make this laptop stand out a bit, Dell has coated the front panel with decent air accents that show up in different colors depending on lighting conditions or the angle that you look at it.

The hinge design of this laptop is average. The laptop is pretty thick, coming in at 0.85 inches, and it weighs more than 5 pounds. It’s a little bit thinner, but it’s heavier than the Asus Tough A15. The included power adapter is huge, and it is one of the biggest adopters we’ve ever come across in the last year.

You’ll certainly need to find room in your bag to carry this laptop around. The interior space is decent, and you get a full-size keyboard.

Display

It’s 15.6 inches offers an FHD panel with 1920 x 1080P resolution. It covers 95 percent sRGB, 73 percent Adobe RGB and 74 percent DCI P3. It comes with a great color-accurate than something like that of Tough A15. G5 15 SE will be an awesome addition to content creation.

If you’re looking to edit photos, this will get the job done. It’s also a pretty bright display with up to 300 nits and the fact that it’s a matte display which makes it even better, so not to worry about crazy reflections when you’re viewing this in direct sunlight.

The gaming experience was fantastic on this notebook due to the combination of the higher refresh rate display.

Performance

This laptop starts at $880 US, and for that, you get a Ryzen 7 4800H with 8 Cores and 16 threads, 16 gigabytes of RAM in the dual-channel at 3200 megahertz, a 512-gigabyte NVMe SSD and an RX 5600 GPU, and a 1080P 144-hertz display.

Dell also offers the G5 with Intel CPUs and a GTX 1660 TI graphics for about the same price. G5 15 SE comes with smart shift technology, and Dell is the first to include this. It treats the GPU and the CPU as a single virtual entity when distributing power and thermal headroom for certain workloads like rendering or gaming.

The smart shift will increase the power going towards whatever component is most critical. For example, in gaming, GPU’s resources are used the most, so it’ll get more power resources, which should technically boost further and for longer than in a system without a smart shift.

But that also means the CPU would be given a lot less power than normal. The same goes for rendering, where the CPU would stretch its legs since the GPU isn’t needed that much. At the same time, the CPU and GPU are now aware of what they’re doing and can balance performance based on workloads.

Keyboard

You get a full-size keyboard, but the keycaps were smaller compared to other notebooks. The keys do offer a great travel distance with good feedback. It comes with a Numpad. It’s right on par with the Tough A15, which is awesome.

The LED backlighting is RGB; it doesn’t get that bright. Dell doesn’t include brightness settings, so it’s either on or off; you need to use the command center for that. The trackpad is respectable, and it is a pretty smooth surface with support for Windows Precision drivers.

The trackpad is also aligned slightly with the space bar meaning that there’s little to no room to place your left palm comfortably, unlike the Tough A15, which is slightly off-centered and makes navigation easier.

Connectivity

The port selection is very good on this notebook, and basically, it’s on par with the other budget-friendly devices. On the left-hand side, you get power-in, mini display port, HDMI 2.0, a USB 3.2 Gen1, type-A port supports 5 gigabits per second, land Jack and the type-C Gen2 port supports 10 gigabits per second which also functions as DP.

Switching over to the right, you get a Kensington lock, 2 USB 2.0 Type-A ports, an audio jack, and a full-size SD card reader, which is interesting. Because this notebook is catered towards gamers but not creators, but if you happen to be both of them, then this is, of course, a bonus feature.

Battery

The battery of this laptop comes with a 3-cell 51-watt hour. The battery life will last for up to 6 to 7 hours on a single charge which is a pretty good time overall.

Speakers

The speakers are bottom-facing; unfortunately, they don’t sound that great. You’re not going to get any bass, and the troubles do sound a bit harsh.

Conclusion

It offers great value with decent gaming frame rates, respectable productivity scores, a really good quality display, and with a new bios update, this laptop does run quieter. The build quality and design are average. The trackpad position is really at a CRAM location, and battery life is pretty short too.

3. Dell XPS 13

The 3rd Best Dell Laptop on our list is Dell XPS 13. The refreshed design from Dell brought some amazing features to the table like a beautiful and bright 16:10 display, a keyboard that strikes the right balance for typists, and a premium build quality they get for such a compact form factor. The performance is also pretty good.

The Dell XPS 13 is one of the best 13-inch laptops you will ever come across.

Dell XPS 13
Dell XPS 13

Design

You’ll get this beautiful CNC milled aluminum unibody construction throughout the whole chassis. The lid is silver, and the interior comes in two different versions: black carbon fiber composite and white glass fiber composite.

It’s very thin, coming in at 0.58 inches or 14.8 millimeters, and it weighs around 2.8 pounds. The hinge is very rigid and smooth, with no signs of wobble even when you use the display as a touch interface. The lid is magnetic, and you can open the lid with one hand, so that’s nice.

You’ll have no issues putting this laptop in your backpack and carry with you every day between home and office. It’s small and very compact. You will love the form factor of this laptop.

Display

Dell XPS 13 comes with a 13.4-inch IPS Infinity Edge Touch display at 1900 x 1200. The touch screen looks great, and it uses a 16:10 aspect ratio which means there’s more vertical space when compared to the most alternative options.

The first thing is that it’s much sharper given the higher pixel density and scales well within windows. It covers 100 percent sRGB, 96 percent Adobe RGB and 100 percent DCI-P3. When you compare that to the standard display, it’s an incredible upgrade to edit photos and other types of content that require precise color accuracy.

This OLED display comes with 387 nits of peak level brightness. Dell has applied an anti-reflective coating to cut down as much reflection as possible, so it works pretty well for outdoor use.

Performance

The XPS 13 is equipped with the 11th generation Core i7 1185G7 Tiger lake processor with 16 gigabytes of RAM and 512 gigabytes of NVMe SSD. It also comes with built-in Iris XE graphics. This year Dell has refreshed the XPS 13 lineup with Intel’s newest Tiger Lake processors, and they’ve also added an OLED display option.

Keyboard

Dell uses the same edge-to-edge backlit keyboard layout. The keyboard comes with big keys, and the spacing is adequate. The keyboard has 1mm of key travel, but the key presses have a subtle clicking feeling. It uses the maglev system found on the XPS 15 and 17. You get great feedback in a very satisfying feeling when you bottom out.

This is one of the best keyboards you can find for an ultrabook. The glass Precision trackpad is awesome, and you get that super smooth surface with the tactile integrated left-right buttons. It clicks down anywhere and feels nice to use, and it’s a bit larger than the last generation.

The carbon fiber palm rest is ridiculously comfortable to type on because it feels so smooth. The built-in fingerprint reader on the power button works 80 percent of the time.

Connectivity

There are two Type-C Thunderbolt 4 ports, one on either side of the machine, along with a MicroSD card slot on the left and a 3.5-millimeter audio combo Jack on the right. Both the type-C ports can be used as display port outputs, and both can be used to charge the machine.

It also comes with Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.1. It also comes with the USB Type-C to Type-A adapter in the box so you can use your old devices. There’s nothing on the back, while the front has a small light bar indicating the charge level.

Battery

The XPS 13 is powered by a 52-watt hour battery. The battery life comes up to 6 hours on a single charge. The Dell Power Manager software also lets you adjust the battery charge level to help prolong battery lifespan.

Speakers

The speakers sound really good; in fact, their position is in such a way where the sound sort of bounces to the side off the surface. It gives you a great bass response with good clarity in high ends.

Webcam

It comes with a 720P webcam which is present above the display in the center. It is pretty much the same compared to last year’s XPS 13. Dell hasn’t made any significant changes compared to that model.

Conclusion

It comes with beautiful unibody construction; the display is awesome, great performance, massive battery life, a fantastic keyboard, and a trackpad. It’s an awesome machine for content consumption and for doing a lot of media-related stuff.

So if you’re looking for a high-quality ultraportable laptop and it’s not a gaming laptop, I could recommend Dell XPS 13.

2. Dell Precision 7750

The 2nd Best Dell Laptop on our list is Dell Precision 7750. The Dell Precision 7750 is the world’s most powerful 17-inch mobile workstation on the market. The workstations are not in the business of looking pretty, but you know it always makes you feel better when you’re working on a good-looking machine. It is made from aluminum materials on both the top and the bottom of the system.

The bottom of the system is machined from one solid piece of aluminum. This laptop also has the instant-on ability, which can be turned on and turned off within the bios. If you have it on, the moment you open the display, the system automatically boots up. The Precision 7750 has a built-in IR camera and fingerprint reader on the power button.

Those features work in conjunction with express sign-in and Microsoft Hello to give you faster access to your system. The express sign-in working in conjunction with the proximity sensor can detect your presence as you walk to and from the system and log you off and log you on accordingly.

Design

It looks nice and sleek with the simplistic square-cut design unibody aluminum shell on the outside. The inside is made of magnesium alloy with a nice matte finish which is a little texture that makes it less prone to sweats and fingerprints.

The magnesium alloy material not only helps reduce the already hefty weight of the machine, but it’s also more resistant to the heat coming out from the inside. So during intensive tasks, you don’t feel it as much on the deck.

Overall, it’s a very well-made version of a pretty standard design for the mobile station. In terms of size and weight, this is very typical for the workstation, 5.5 pounds and almost 3 centimeters thick. The build quality is so robust and so sturdy, which is completely solid all around.

The hinge is also stiff and solid while still being smooth and completely one-hand openable.

Display

The Precision 7750 comes with a large 17.3-inch display. The display is a 4K option, and it’s just superb. The high resolution shines on this 15.5-inch display. It also has a super wide gamut coverage with 100 percent on both sRGB and Adobe RGB colors.

The colors are crisp and vibrant, with great contrast and very high brightness. You can confidently do the graphic design works on this laptop. It’s also an anti-glare display which helps a whole lot. The 4K display doesn’t make you feel any eye strain when using it, even with prolonged working sessions.

With this premium display option, you also have a Windows Hello compatible IR camera on the upper bezel, which works flawlessly. It offers multiple display panels. The entry panel is a full HD 42 percent color gamut panel with about 250 nits of brightness.

There also comes a full HD 100 percent DCI P3 panel, which has 500 nits of brightness, and a far superior panel that has the same resolution as the entry panel. Still, for less than $100, you can get into 100 percent color correct the DCI P3 panel, which is stunning.

On the higher end, there comes a UHD 4K display panel with 100 percent Adobe color gamut, so there is a difference between the color gamut from full HD to the UHD panel.

Performance

It is equipped with Intel Core i7 10750H and Nvidia Quadro T1000 graphics; it performed quite similarly to some high-end gaming laptops. The CPU clock speed boosts up to 4.5 gigahertz. Unlike gaming GPUs, the Quadro card is optimized for CID software such as AutoCAD, Cacher, Blender, SolidWorks, etc.

You can edit 4K video editing with Premiere Pro and After Effect; it all works smoothly. The Quadro card is not, but you can still definitely game on this laptop with relatively good and stable FPS numbers.

So performance-wise, there are no issues with this laptop like overheating or thermal throttling. The fans do come up when it’s under load, but it’s not too loud, completely acceptable in an office environment.

Keyboard

The keyboard on this is awesome, and you will have such a nice typing experience. It offers very good travel, nice and tactile feedback cushiony, and is soft on your fingertips. It comes with a spacious layout and good sizes keycaps.

Overall, it is a very good keyboard that doesn’t require a lot of getting used to. On the right, you also have a full-size Numpad that your hands don’t have to cramp up to use. It comes with a white backlit. The touchpad is also great.

It’s a Precision touchpad, amazing build, is super smooth, and is accurate with gestures. It’s also a pretty good size touchpad for Windows standards. It comes with a nice set of buttons.

Connectivity

The ports are located on one side, an SD card reader, a headset jack, and 2 USB 3.0 ports with power share. On the other side, you have two thunderbolts, three ports, a USB 3.0 port with power share, and a smart card reader.

On the backside of the system, you have a mini DisplayPort 1.4, HDMI 2.0, a gigabit Ethernet port with the spring-loaded extension on its bottom. Up at the top, you have the wedge lock slot. The venting is present on the rear side, and you have the power plug.

Battery

Suppose you’re using a mobile workstation for what it’s meant to do, which is extremely intensive demands such as AI, VR, algorithm-related works, or 3D modeling with huge amounts of information or extremely heavy projects relating to designing, architecture, animation, graphics, etc.

In that case, you’re just going to have this plugged in at all times. Because otherwise, it won’t be able to deliver the level of performance needed for these kinds of professional work.

But when you use web browsing, watching videos, and content writing on Google docs, it lasts around 4 hours in better performance mode. This is pretty good for a mobile workstation with a 4K display.

Speakers

The speaker on this is surprisingly pretty good. It gets nice and loud, very nice sound on the mid and high range. You could use a bit more bass and clarity. Located at the top of the palm rest are the top firing speakers along the top front of the system; this allows for better sound quality and audio quality. The subwoofers are located in the system.

Webcam

You also have a shutter control at the top of the bezel, which you can physically see the red cover over the camera and slide it back to the left to get turned the camera back on.

Conclusion

Overall, on the Dell Precision 7550, the people who need the power it provides will be a very good machine. It comes with perfect built quality, superb display, amazing keyboard, good touchpad, excellent speakers, and ample connectivity options.

It is crazy to carry this heavy laptop around, but it’s still smaller and more portable than a desktop PC. It’s capable of delivering the same level of performance.

1. Dell XPS 15

The 1st Best Dell Laptop on our list is Dell XPS 15. For the past few years, it seems like Dell just forgot about the XPS 15. Well, the XPS 13 and its 2-in-1 sibling have evolved into some of the most polished ultrabooks we’ve ever seen. The larger model was cursed with a boring and chunky look that all changes this year.

The latest XPS 15 features all of the modern design tweaks we’ve loved in the 13-inch models a larger screen, with incredibly thin bezels, Dolby vision support, a slimmer and lighter case, and an improved keyboard and trackpad.

All of those upgrades add up to one of the best 15-inch laptops we’ve ever seen.

Design

Dell XPS 15 has the same sleek aluminum case as the 13-inch and sturdy carbon fiber along the wrist rest and keyboard area. It’s a far better machine for working on the go, too, within an 18-millimeter thin case and with the starting weight of 4 pounds.

That’s what you’ll get with the non-touchscreen and the 56 what is the battery. It bumps up to 4.5 pounds with the touch screen and the bigger battery. You can open this laptop with just one finger.

Display

Just like the XPS 13, the display reaches down to the keyboard, and there’s no more bottom border getting in the way. The XPS 15 features a screen-to-body ratio of 93.9 percent, which means that its bezels are so thin and they’re practically invisible. It’s even a higher ratio than the XPS 13.

The laptop’s 15.6-inch FHD display with 1920 x 1080 resolution is 5 percent larger than before. It has a taller 16:10 aspect ratio that gives the XPS 15 a bit more breathing room for juggling multiple windows and scrolling through large documents.

The larger aspect ratios like 3:2 screens at Microsoft surface notebooks are better for getting work done.

The Dell XPS 15 screen comes in 1080P plus and 4K plus variants; that plus means they’ve got a few more pixels to deal with for that larger aspect ratio. Both the displays support HDR Dolby vision, but the 4K plus model gets you better color accuracy with support for 100 percent of the Adobe RGB gamut and 94 percent of the DCI-P3 standard.

Dell has been delivering some tremendous displays for years, but the inclusion of HDR and Dolby vision support gives its screens a leg up over most laptops.

Performance

The XPS 15 is featured Intel’s i7 10875H 8 Core CPU, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1650 Ti graphics, 16 gigabytes of RAM, and a one terabyte SSD. You can configure it up to the super speedy Core i9 with 64 gigabytes of RAM.

It easily trounces the surface book 3 in the PC market ten benchmarks, especially for Multi-Core testing. The XPS 15 converted a one-minute 4K video clip into 1080P in 43 seconds with its CPU and 33 seconds with the Nvidia GPU.

This isn’t a machine you get to play games with; the GTX 1650 TI is more than enough to play most modern titles like overwatch in 1080P. You can have the option to upgrade the RAM up to 64 gigabytes.

Keyboard

If you’re writing most of the time, you’ll appreciate the XPS 15’s improved keyboard. The keycaps are nearly 10 percent larger than before, and they spread out more widely, which makes it feel like you’re typing on a full-size desktop keyboard.

The trackpad is also 62 percent bigger, and it works just as well handling precise photo edits as it did with multi-touch gestures. It’s easy to feel spoiled with the preference of great PC touchpads these days but using this one is a reminder of how far we’ve come.

That sense of progress echoes throughout the XPS 15.

Connectivity

You’ll get 3 USB C ports, 2 of which support Thunderbolt 3, while the last is just a slower USB 3.1 connection. There’s no more HDMI, Ethernet, or USB Type-A port. Though Dell has includes a USB C to A cable in the box.

You’ll have to go to the USB C. Hub group like the MacBook Pro and many other premium notebooks. You won’t feel bad about losing ports when you see just how fast the XPS 15 is.

Battery

You get a really big 86 watt battery which lasts long to up to 10 hours on a single charge. This laptop comes with a 165-watt charger which is very small and super light, not going to weigh you’re back down.

Speakers

The speakers on the XPS 15 were amazing. You won’t need to plug in your headphones or an extra set of speakers on this laptop because they work great. There’s proper stereo separation or stereo imaging because you’ve got two front-facing speakers with great projection.

There are speakers on the side as well, and you also get a bit of bass response.

Webcam

The video quality of this webcam is not the greatest compared to some of the other notebooks available in the market. You have the little webcam embedded into the top, which will give you Windows Hello to log in, and of course, the power button on the deck also acts as a fingerprint scanner.

Conclusion

It’s still a pretty good laptop, a strong performer who can be used a lot for photo and video editing, a little bit of gaming, and can do all jobs just fine. There are thinner laptops on the market, but you will struggle to find a laptop that packs this amount of power while remaining very, very thin. Dell XPS 15 is the smallest 15.6-inch top performance class laptop in the world.
