Offers Solid Performance – Acer Swift 3
Acer Swift 3 Ryzen comes in silver colour. It is equipped with the latest AMD Ryzen 4500 U 6 core processor coupled with 8 GB of DDR 4 RAM and 512 GB of NVMe SSD. It also comes with an AMD Radeon graphics card.
The display of Acer Swift 3 Ryzen is the only shortcoming it’s not bad, but on the sRGB colour gamut. It’s limited to only 57% of it’s a full HD IP display with 1920 x 1080 resolution. It will not ruin the movie-watching experience, nor does it get in the way of getting work done.
It becomes a problem only when you are doing any work that involves colours whether that’s video editing, graphic designing or photo editing. Also, Acer Swift 3 doesn’t get too bright. The nits count in Acer Swift 3 is around 233. So if you’re working in a vivid environment, then it becomes a problem.
But for regular work like Microsoft office, making PPTs or watching movies, this display gets the job done.
Acer needs to cut some corners to make Acer Swift 3 light on the pocket, and it indeed makes some compromises on display.
Now let’s talk about some of the great things which make Acer Swift 3 better than an Intel counterpart and make this a must buy.
Acer Swift 3 Ryzen is a champ as it is powered by Ryzen 4500 U processor with six cores and 8 GB of RAM. You can smoothly perform day-to-day tasks like working on PPTs, general browsing, taking zoom calls, an occasional video, photo editing, or even gaming.
Ryzen is well optimized for heavy multitasking, and it shows here. Also, it doesn’t get too hot on heavy load, which is also a plus point. Acer Swift 3 is well-tuned and makes this one of the most suitable machines for daily tasks. Thanks to its internals.
One of the best things about the Acer Swift 3 is it comes with 512 GB NVMe SSD which offers solid performance despite being a budget notebook the read and guide performance is excellent. The performance of this laptop is top-notch and it will last for 2-4 years.
3. Build Quality and Design
The build quality is industrial grade. The entire construction is made from aluminium-magnesium, and bright silver finishing flows nicely from the top to the inside of the laptop.
Acer Swift 3 weighs just 1.2 kgs, making it one of the lightest 14-inch ultrabooks in the market and it is thin. This laptop is super compact and easy to carry around. 83-per cent screen to body ratio also plays a massive part in making this laptop ultraportable.
On the bottom, we have this black grip patch, which helps keep the laptop adhered to the desk. Like most Acer laptops the exhaust fans are located at the back between the panel and the bottom chassis. It does not get hot.
And yes you can open this laptop with one hand. The hinges are well built as well. The only gripe you will have here is that the bottom bezel is chunky and the entire screen is wrapped around with this black plastic which looks odd.
The webcam is on top with two microphones with good quality. Overall the design and build quality is pretty good at this price point. The silver colour is quite universal, which will fit any office or work from home set-ups easily. Looking at this device, you can easily be mistaken for a notebook that costs hundreds more.
4. Graphics Performance
Gaming is very well possible on Acer Swift 3. We tried a few games like Fortnite and GTA 5, and surprisingly, you can play Fortnite in high settings. There is no noticeable lag in the gameplay which is pretty great.
AMD Radeon Vega Graphics is much better than the Nvidia MX250 M. In a nutshell if you’re a student or professional who is into casual gaming then this is the perfect ultrabook for you.
One thing to note here is that the Radeon chip inside Acer Swift 3 uses only 512 MB of video RAM, so if your title requires more than 512 MB of VRAM, then it might be a problem.
5. Basic Port Selection
On the left, we have the charge port a USB type C port which supports power delivery up to 15 watts and HDMI port and a USB 3.2 Gen one port on the right you have a headphone Jack and a USB 2.O port now.
The battery lasts for 7 to 8 hours with the screen brightness of 60 to 80 per cent, which is not bad considering it only uses a 48-watt hour 3 cell battery.
The battery life is more than what I got from the Intel version of Acer Swift 3 a big win for AMD.
In simple words, it will easily last you for an entire day if you are a light user. It quickly charges. A full 100 per cent charge takes about 2 to 2.5 hours overall no complaints on the battery life this laptop is a battery champ.
6. Keyboard and Trackpad
The keyboard provides a superb typing experience. The keys themselves have single-level white backlighting which works well. There’s plenty of travel without the keys feeling mushy.
The keys have nice bottoming out the action, and the layouts feel comfortable, but the space bar on the keyboard is non-backlit which is a bit odd. The trackpad is again one area where Acer decided to cut costs it’s made of plastic, and the tracking is not as precise although it has windows precision drivers.
Somehow the top material is not as smooth and responsive as some other higher priced notebooks. Speaking of touchpads, it also comes with an inbuilt fingerprint sensor which works excellent you can unlock the Acer Swift 3 in less than a second even if the screen is off.
Speakers are okay, this time they are located at the bottom of the laptop, and the quality is excellent and distortion-free. Now let’s discuss the upgradability of this laptop you cannot upgrade RAM as it soldered on to the motherboard however you can upgrade the SSD to a bigger and better one if you want.
Take that any day Acer Swift 3 punches well about weight and its components.
Ryzen 5 processor is the real winner here and combined with the Radeon graphics makes this the most fantastic compact laptop in its segment easily beating the Intel-powered once.
You would be surprised how much value Acer has backed into this compact 14-inch device. The only Cons here is the display but despite this Acer has still delivered a winning combination with Acer Swift 3.
The look and feel as close to premium notebooks and the 83 per cent screen to body ratio also offers a modern touch with a thin bezel.
Should you buy it? The answer is definitely Yes if you’re a student or a professional on a budget it will easily last for 4 to 5 years. Acer has done it again and will dominate the segment with this sweet Acer Swift 3 Laptop.
